All you need to know about Rajasthan political crisis

There seems to be no end as the political slugfest continues to hog headlines in Rajasthan. The Supreme Court on Monday allowed Rajasthan Speaker CP Joshi to withdraw his plea. Joshi said the Rajasthan High Court has passed a detailed order and the legal team needs time to look at it before proceeding further.

As the war of words escalated with the ruling party MLAs still holed up in a resort in Jaipur and no concrete information on the whereabouts of the rebel MLAs, the Supreme Court had earlier announced that it will hear the case of the political crisis in the state on Monday.

“Voice of dissent” in a democracy cannot be shut down, the apex court had said on Thursday. It refused to restrain the Rajasthan High Court from passing an order on a plea by Pilot and 18 other dissident Congress MLAs challenging the disqualification notice against them and said it would be subject to the outcome of petition before the apex court.

The apex court said the issue raised in the plea filed by the speaker required “prolonged hearing” as it involved “larger questions” related to the democracy and how it will survive.

On Friday, the Rajasthan High Court ordered maintaining status quo on the disqualification notice issued by the state assembly speaker to the 19 dissident Congress MLAs.

No decision has been taken by the party on whether to challenge the High Court order of Friday ordering status quo on the disqualification notices issued to the 19 rebel party MLAs.

Delhi HC To Rule On Kuldeep Singh Sengar's Bail Plea In Custodial Death Case

The Delhi High Court is scheduled to pronounce its verdict today at 2:30 PM regarding the bail plea of former Unnao MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The plea pertains to the custodial death case of the Unnao rape victim's father, where Sengar is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence. During the proceedings, Sengar's counsel argued for a suspension of sentence, citing 'long incarceration' and medical grounds requiring treatment outside Tihar Jail. Even if the court grants bail in this instance, Sengar will remain incarcerated as the Supreme Court recently stayed a previous High Court order that had suspended his life sentence in the primary rape case. The programme provides a comprehensive recap of the legal arguments and the current status of the multiple cases involving the former legislator.

Nikhil Naz On ICC Ultimatum To Bangladesh Over India-Hosted T20 World Cup

On this Special Report, sports editor Nikhil Naz discusses the escalating tension between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The ICC has issued a firm ultimatum to Bangladesh, demanding confirmation by Wednesday, January 21, regarding their participation in the T20 World Cup hosted by India. Nikhil Naz notes, 'If you do not confirm your participation, then we will be forced to replace you with another team based on rankings.' The standoff follows the BCB's refusal to travel to India citing security concerns, a situation triggered after the BCCI reportedly requested an IPL franchise to drop Mustafizur Ahmed. While Bangladesh has proposed moving their matches to Sri Lanka or adopting a hybrid model, the ICC has rejected these alternatives. If Bangladesh fails to comply by the deadline, they risk being replaced by Scotland, marking an unprecedented logjam in international cricket history.
