Is the current farmer protest political?

Mega showdown as thousands of farmers from Punjab breached police barricades in Haryana as they were heading towards Delhi to protest against the new farm laws.

Meanwhile, a war of words over farmers' Delhi Chalo march broke out between Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar.

While Singh slammed Khattar for stopping farmers from moving towards the national capital, terming it as "totally undemocratic and unconstitutional", the latter told the Punjab chief minister to stop "inciting innocent farmers".

So, the question is, is the current farmer protest political? And should the govt have opened dialogue with farmers?
