Jab We Met: Gopichand reveals favourite quality in world champion PV Sindhu

Former All England champion and India badminton chief coach Pullela Gopichand said he is living his dream through the success of wards, including PV Sindhu, at the Olympic stage.

Speaking to TVTN News Director Rahul Kanwal on India Today's Jab We Met, Pullela Gopichand said PV Sindhu's work ethics makes her one of his most successful wards.

PV Sindhu ended her gold medal drought at the BWF World Championships in Basel when she finished on the top step of the podium after outclassing familiar foe Akane Yamaguchi in the women's singles final last month.

Revealing Sindhu never says no to tough training sessions, Gopichand said: "Her work ethic. I've never seen her say no to a training session. Whenever i say: let's push and it's always yes. And the one great quality which i think she does possess is like when you give her various training routines and the toughest one in the end and she will say: let's finish the tough one first.

"And that's a quality that I really like. Loads of energy, great work ethic and in a match she will do what you say. It's something which is phenomenally good," Gopichand said.

Reflecting on his coaching career during which he has produced multiple top-level shuttlers, Gopichand added: "This was a dream and I can surely say that I've surpassed my dream when I started off because I wanted to produce one champion but today with multiple champions and one world champion, I think it has come a full circle.

"For me it's been my personal dream. I wish I had won an Olympic medal and I couldn't. And the only way I can live my dream is through her and other players. So I think for me it's my dream through them."

Shashi Tharoor at Odds With Congress Leadership Ahead of 2026 Kerala Polls

This report examines the escalating friction between four-time MP Shashi Tharoor and the Congress party leadership as Kerala prepares for the 2026 elections. The rift reportedly intensified following the Kochi Mahapanchayat, where sources claim 'protocol was breached, sitting was altered, speaker order changed at the last minute, and Rahul Gandhi did not publicly acknowledge Tharoor.' The tension is not isolated, following previous instances where Tharoor's comments on the Emergency and his praise for LK Advani forced the party to distance itself. As the Bharatiya Janata Party gains ground in urban Kerala, the Congress faces a dilemma over whether it can afford to sideline a prominent leader known as a 'global citizen.' The bulletin highlights that this internal conflict is no longer just about personal egos but has become a matter of electoral survival for the grand old party in a state where margins are critical.
