HMPV cases detected in Maharashtra, Centre reviews situation of cases

Two children, aged 7 and 14, in Nagpur have tested positive for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), bringing the total cases of this respiratory illness to seven. Hospital authorities confirmed that the two tested positive for HMPV, a respiratory illness resembling COVID-19, causing symptoms like fever, cough, runny nose, and sore throat, and affecting both the upper and lower respiratory tract.

Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra reviewed the situation following HMPV cases on Tuesday. He stated that there is no surge in respiratory illnesses nationwide and emphasised that robust surveillance is in place to monitor such cases. The Health Secretary advised states to strengthen awareness amongst residents regarding preventive measures.
