Can social media giants be blocked in India for not complying with new digital norms?

The new rules, announced on February 25, require large social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to follow additional due diligence, including the appointment of a chief compliance officer, nodal contact person and resident grievance officer.

These social media giants were given a deadline till May 25th to comply with govt norms.

Facebook said it is working to comply with the provisions and is discussing the issues which need more engagement with the govt. While Twitter is yet to comply with the rules.
