CBI vs Kolkata Police: SC directs Rajeev Kumar to appear before CBI

Claiming a moral victory, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said that she welcomed the Supreme Court verdict which directed Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to appear before the CBI.

Supreme Court issued directions to Rajeev Kumar after it heard CBI's plea on Tuesday morning. (February 5). Kumar will now appear before the CBI in Shillong as it was deemed to be a neutral location.

However, the Supreme Court said that the CBI can't take coercive actions against Kumar including arrest.

As she addressed her partymen, supporters and government officials in Metro Park in Kolkata, she said that the law and order fall within the purview of the state. She accused BJP of violating the constitutional mechanism.
