The duo first met each other on the sets of Poovellam Kettuppar in 1999. Both were not big stars back then which made them connect with each other.

After the shooting of Poovellam Kettuppar, they weren't in touch with each other. It was in 2001, they reconnected and became best friends.

It was Gautham Menon's Kaakha Kaakha which helped them confess the love they have on each other. Suriya and Jyothika tied the knot in 2006 in a grand affair.

Post-marriage, Jyothika quit films and concentrated on her family. The couple was blessed with daughter Diya in 2007 and son Dev in 2010. She made her comeback after 8 years of marriage.
