Kabir Singh box office collection Day 13: Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani film joins the Rs 200 crore-club

Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani's Kabir Singh is refusing to slow down at the box office. The film, which bagged Rs 134.42 crore in the first week of its release, is all set to cross the Rs 200 crore mark today.

Kabir Singh made Rs 9.07 crore on Monday, July 1, and Rs 8 .31 crore on Tuesday, bringing its total collection to Rs 198.95 crore. It is expected to make around 7 crore approx today.

The film has emerged as the highest-grossing film of 2019.

Kabir Singh released in 3123 screens across India. The film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, which had starred Vijay Deverakonda. The film tells the story of a hot-headed surgeon who goes on a downward spiral after his lover marries someone else. It has been slammed for its violent approach towards women and blatant misogyny. Both the films were directed by Sandeep Vanga.

Shahid has often spoke on how the film took a toll on his physical and mental health. "I had to undergo a physical transformation, and my state of mind needed to go from a happy family man to a self-destructive crazy doctor. It was a lot to deal with both physically and mentally," he said in an interview to Hindustan Times.

Giving the film 1.5 out of 5 stars, India Today reviewer Ananya Bhattacharya wrote, "Kabir Singh spends 120 minutes of its 154 in showing Kabir either drinking or drunk or snorting cocaine or needling in morphine or fighting with people or, slapping his girlfriend or screaming at her. Or making out. In the remaining 24 minutes, his repentance is done with, and we all go home with a happy ending. If you think it is okay, if you think it is justified because 'movie hai yaar, it's not real life', you are part of the problem. Misogyny is not cool. Neither is Kabir Singh."
