Recently, some of the BJP-ruled states - Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand - passed laws prohibiting religious conversion for the purpose of marriage. The law apparently centers around the contentious 'love jihad' issue, which has been pioneered mainly by the saffron party.
While there are significant questions on the issue - Can law overrule personal choice - According to the Mood of the Nation (MOTN) January 2021 poll, 54 per cent respondents said "love jihad" is a conspiracy to convert Hindu women to Islam. For more, watch the full video.
