It has banned cable movie channels in the state.</p><p>Reason: the cable channels were showing the latest releases, resulting in closure of cinema halls and a fall in tax collections. Siti Cable has filed a writ petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the decision and CVO has made a representation to the state Government. </p><p>The industry says the UP Cinema Regulation Act referred to by the Government only deals with cinema halls and video parlours and that cable TV is a Central subject. </p><p>However, most independent operators have welcomed the move. "They were being forced to show new movies because of competition," laments Roop Sharma of Cable Operators Federation of India. </p><p>"The subscribers are very demanding. This forces operators into showing pirated movies," says Rakesh Dutta of Cable Networks Association.
