Doordarshan (DD) has been facing flak for falling revenues and the increasing popularity of its nearest rival Zee. But all is not lost yet.A recent DD viewership study recorded on the internationally accepted A.C. Nielsen Peoplemeter system shows that DD continues to maintain its No. 1 status. The Peoplemeter, set up in eight cities - Delhi, Kanpur, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kochi - shows that DD scores despite rising cable infiltration. In fact, in Delhi, Kanpur, Calcutta and Kochi all the top 60 shows are from the DD stable. An interesting find of the study is that the news bulletins telecast on DD are the most watched news programmes in all the eight cities, while the much hyped Star News doesn't feature among the top 60 programmes in any of the eight cities.
