Acquitted: Arif Mohammed Khan, BSP MP, in the Rs 65 crore Jain hawala case, by Special Judge V.B. Gupta. The CBI had charged Khan with receiving Rs 6.5 crore from the Jains for awarding a contract to a French company when he was minister of state for energy.Elected:Sudhir Jalan, as the president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He is currently the senior vice-president of the federation.Died:K.M. Chandy, veteran Congressman and former governor of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Pondicherry, in Kochi, at the age of 77. Imprisoned during the freedom struggle, he was a member of the legislative assembly of the erstwhile state of Travancore-Cochin for three terms from 1948.
