AWARDED:Dilip Kumar,film actor, Pakistan's highest civilian medal, the Nishan-i-Imtiaz. Born Yusuf Khan in Peshawar in the North West Frontier Province before Partition, Kumar was presented the award on the eve of the 50th anniversary of Pakistan's Independence.AWARDED:Nani Palkhivala, noted economist and constitutional expert, the Dadabhai Naoroji memorial prize. The award, which carries a citation and Rs 20,000 in cash, was presented to him by Maharashtra Governor P.C. Alexander on August 13. Earlier recipients of the award include J.R.D. Tata and Satyajit Ray.AWARDED:Karnam Malleshwari, weightlifter and the first Indian to win an individual gold medal in a world weightlifting championship, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.
