She wept twice. First because she was attacked by thugs soon after she set foot in India and then, when boarding the flight back home. Japanese tourist, Yuko Watanabe, 22, had a nasty experience when some autorickshaw drivers outside the New Delhi Railway Station offered to help her find a room. Instead they took her to the notorious Buddha Jayanti Park where they assaulted her. Luckily, Rohtak Income Tax Commissioner B.M. Behra was driving past and rescued her.After the incident was all over the newspapers, the Tourism Department jumped in to salvage their image. Laying out the red carpet, Watanabe was surprised when she walked into a deluxe room at the Ashok Hotel. Everything was on the house, including the chauffeured Mercedes Benz that took her to Agra and Jaipur.The nightmare soon became a dream. She was showered with gifts books on India, and a silk sari, among others. She also met Minister of State for Tourism, Sukhbans Kaur and Director-General Tourism, Yogesh Chandra.There was more to come. At the airport she discovered that for the first time in her life she would be flying first-class.
