No.</p><p>Dr Panneer Selvam, veterinary officer at the National Zoological Park in Delhi, has used an ayurvedic formulation on an old white tigress to rid her of a urinary bladder stone that had been bothering her for some time.</p><p>Neeri an Ayurvedic drug used for humans was given to the ailing tigress for two months towards the end of last year. Now, Shanti, the 15-year-old tigress, is fine. </p><p>"Surgery would have been a tough option because of her age, and sulpha drugs were not working, so I thought of trying ayurvedic medicine," says Selvam.</p><p>Mixed with her drinking water, the syrup was given to Shanti, and it worked well. Now, the vet hopes to try ayurvedic medication on more animals.
