Controversy is brewing over a plan to create a home for performing bears in Delhi's Asola wildlife sanctuary, the last surviving sliver of a once great forest.Proposed two years ago by green crusader and now Union Minister of State for Welfare Maneka Gandhi, the plan was approved in March by the Delhi Government. On the face of it, the bear home seems like a kind human idea: take away sloth bears from their itinerant masters and rehabilitate them. But critics say so many bears just can't live together in an area that will have to be fenced and thus resemble a zoo. Their masters, the madaris, will stay there to look after them.
