After a brief challenge in the 2024 general election, the promise of the 26-party-strong alliance as a credible Opposition is rapidly fading

In the summer of 2023, a year before the general election, the sun could hardly have shone brighter. Twenty-six political parties, burying their disparate ideologies and differences, came together to take on a single, seemingly indomitable adversary. The coalition even gave itself a grand name—the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, the cleverly crafted backronym I.N.D.I.A. signalling unity, ambition and national purpose.
