No democracy in Bengal, Mamata's rule like Kim Jong Un: Giriraj Singh on attack on ED officers

On the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials in West Bengal, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said there exists no democracy under Mamata Banerjee's regime and that it was like Kim Jong Un's governance in North Korea.

The Rural Development Minister, who is a BJP Lok Sabha MP from Begusarai, also said, "Adhir Ranjan (of Congress) has said that it would not be new even if there is a murder... This is Mamata Banerjee's democracy..."

Singh's statements follow the assault of ED sleuths in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali on Friday, sparking a fresh round of blame game between the ruling TMC and the BJP. While the TMC justified the attack on ED officials stating locals were provoked by central agencies targeting the Opposition, on the other hand, the BJP alleged an absolute failure of law and order in the Mamata Banerjee-led state.

The incident was reported from North 24 Parganas district, where the officials, along with paramilitary forces, had gone to raid locations in connection with an alleged ration distribution scam. More than 200 locals surrounded the Enforcement Directorate officials and the central armed paramilitary forces.

The team was attacked as it approached Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shah Jahan Sheikh's residence.
