The political scene in Kanpur has largely been dominated by the BJP and the Congress, but the Samajwadi Party is gaining ground, especially following its performance in the May elections. Meanwhile, the seat is currently held by BJP's Satyadev Pachauri, whose potential succession is a topic of interest due to BJP's mandate against leaders above 75 years.
