India issues travel advisory for Iran as massive protests spread

In a significant diplomatic development, India has issued a travel advisory for its citizens regarding the ongoing unrest in Iran. The advisory states, 'In view of latest developments Indian nationals are advised to avoid non-essential travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice.' The bulletin highlights that massive protests have erupted in 21 of 31 regions, driven by a collapsing economy and soaring inflation, which has reportedly risen to over 40%. The report notes that the Iranian currency has plummeted, with one US dollar now worth 14 lakh Iranian rials. The unrest, which began with shopkeepers in Tehran on the 28th of December, has intensified across the country. Indian citizens currently in Iran are urged to exercise caution, avoid protest areas, and register with the Indian Embassy.
