Heavy rains have lashed parts of Gujarat for the past several days. In the last 24 hours, Saurashtra, Madhya Gujarat and North Gujarat have received heavy downpour, leaving several low-lying areas inundated. The rains have severely affected the entire Saurashtra including Mahesana, Patan and Banaskantha of North Gujarat. At least nine were killed and 1900 had to be shifted from low-lying areas to safer places on Monday. Of the nine deaths, two were caused due to the collapse of houses in Junagadh and Tapi districts, while seven others drowned in separate incidents in Mehsana, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Tapi, Narmada and Morbi, officials said.
