Video: Accident victim's family thrash accused biker at UP police booth

A major brawl broke out in Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College area after a woman, injured in a road accident, died during treatment. The woman, identified as Prema Devi, was allegedly hit by a bike near Pipraich railway crossing on Saturday night. The rider, Dinesh from Ramkola, took her to BRD Medical College, where she succumbed to her injuries.

After learning of her death, the woman’s family and villagers reached the hospital, caught hold of Dinesh, and created a ruckus.

Police intervened and took him to the nearby medical station for safety. However, the crowd followed, broke into the station, and assaulted him.

Inspector Rahul Kumar, who tried to control the situation, was injured during the clash. The mob also vandalised the medical station.

A video of the brawl and vandalism has since gone viral on social media.

Gulriha Police Station in-charge Vijay Pratap Singh said several people have been detained, and a detailed investigation is underway. Those found guilty will face strict action, he said.
