SC partly strikes down Section 377, LGBTQ community celebrates across country

The Supreme Court today ruled that consensual sexual relations between adults of the same gender is not a crime in India.

Section 377 earlier criminalised unnatural sex between two individuals defining the term as "carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal". The offence of committing unnatural sex under Section 377 was punishable with imprisonment up to life.
