Kanpur Lamborghini crash: FIR first says driver unknown, later names tycoon's son
The Lamborghini crash in Kanpur has taken a significant turn with the driver, Shivam Mishra, now named in the FIR after initial police ambiguity. This update comes amid public outcry and scrutiny over the handling of the case.

The Lamborghini crash in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, which had sparked controversy after police initially registered an FIR naming the driver as “unknown”, has now seen a key update with the inclusion of Shivam Mishra’s name in the case papers.
Earlier, the FIR had mentioned only the Lamborghini car and not the person driving it, despite videos from the accident site appearing to show a man being taken out of the luxury vehicle moments after the crash. The absence of a named accused had triggered public outrage and questions over the police response.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon near the Gwal Toli area of Kanpur, when a Lamborghini allegedly veered off the road, mounted the footpath and hit people standing nearby. One pedestrian, Mohammad Taufiq, suffered serious leg injuries and was rushed to hospital. His condition is reported to be stable.
What followed, from the initial FIR describing the driver as “unknown” to visuals of the car being handled at the police station and the presence of private bodyguards, had fuelled allegations of preferential treatment and intensified scrutiny of the case.
The subsequent addition of Shivam Mishra’s name to the FIR comes amid mounting pressure and questions raised by the viral videos from the scene.
FIR SAYS DRIVER’S IDENTITY UNKNOWN
According to the FIR registered at Gwal Toli police station, the complainant stated that a Lamborghini was being driven in a rash and negligent manner. The document explicitly lists the accused as the “unknown driver of the Lamborghini car”, with no name or personal details mentioned.
The FIR records that the car hit a parked Bullet motorcycle before also striking the complainant, causing severe internal and external injuries.
VIDEO FROM SCENE RAISES QUESTIONS
Soon after the accident, videos began circulating showing a man stepping out of the Lamborghini after the crash. Police sources have identified him as Shivam, son of tobacco trader KK Mishra, his name does not figure in the FIR.
Police have so far not issued an official clarification on the discrepancy between the FIR and the visuals.
The footage also shows bodyguards accompanying him at the scene. As per the video, Shivam Mishra was quickly removed before any medical examination could be conducted at the accident site.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Central Atul Srivastava said an FIR has been registered based on a complaint. “A case has been lodged and the vehicle has been seized,” he said, without addressing questions about the absence of the name seen in the video.
HEART ATTACK CLAIM, MEDICAL TEST NOT DONE
According to the bodyguards accompanying Shivam Mishra, he allegedly suffered a minor heart attack following the accident and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
As a result, no on-site medical examination or preliminary test was carried out to assess his condition at the spot, an omission that has now come under scrutiny.
Police have said the medical claim is under verification.
HANDLING OF VEHICLE DRAWS ANGER
After the crash, the Lamborghini was taken to the police station. It was there that scenes caught on camera began drawing sharp criticism. Visuals show the luxury car being covered with a sheet inside the police premises, allegedly at the direction of police personnel.
People present at the station can be seen objecting to the move and trying to stop the car from being covered. In the same visuals, private bodyguards associated with the accused are seen standing near the car, effectively guarding it.
Victims’ family members and locals have alleged that the bouncers misbehaved with them inside the police station. They claim this happened in the presence of police officers, who did not intervene.
The optics of a luxury car being shielded and guarded while an injured pedestrian was undergoing treatment have fuelled allegations of preferential treatment.
MEDICAL CLAIM UNDER VERIFICATION
DCP Atul Srivastava said the claim is being verified. “We are checking whether the person driving the vehicle actually has a history of seizures,” he said.
Questions have also been raised about how a high-performance vehicle was being driven if the driver was prone to such medical episodes.
INJURED PEDESTRIAN SPEAKS
Taufiq Ahmed, who was injured in the crash, told police that he was standing on the footpath when the car suddenly came towards him. He is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be out of danger.
His family has demanded strict action, pointing to the videos and the treatment of the vehicle at the police station as proof that the case is not being handled like an ordinary road accident.
