Watch: Telangana police chains detainee, making him sweep station

In Telangana’s Nizamabad district, the police subjected a detainee to inhumane treatment at the Bodhan Police Station. The accused, taken into custody as part of an ongoing investigation, was shackled and made to sit inside the station. He was also allegedly forced to work while still in chains.

A viral video circulating on social media shows the detainee holding a broom and sweeping the police station floor, his feet bound by heavy iron shackles. The footage, which has sparked outrage, captures the accused moving slowly as he carries out the task.

Typically, detainees are locked up in a cell after being taken into custody. However, in this instance, Bodhan police reportedly chained the man’s legs and compelled him to perform menial work within the station premises. The video, recorded by unidentified individuals, was uploaded online, drawing sharp criticism over the alleged violation of the detainee’s rights.

Authorities are yet to respond to the controversy, as questions mount over the treatment of the accused and the apparent abuse of police power.
