A Turkish Airlines flight carrying 236 passengers made a full emergency landing at Kolkata airport on Wednesday after the captain reported a possible fire in the right engine.

The Turkish 727 aircraft was operating from Kathmandu to Istanbul when the captain informed Kolkata Air Traffic Control about the suspected engine fire. Following this, the flight diverted to Kolkata.

The aircraft landed at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport at 14:49 hours. The aircraft is currently at Kolkata airport, and an inspection is going on.

“Full emergency landing of Turkish 727, from Kathmandu to Istanbul at Kolkata airport. The Captain informed Kolkata ATC about a possible fire on the right engine. The actual time of arrival at Kolkata NSCBI Airport was 14:49 hours, with 236 passengers on board. The aircraft is at Kolkata airport now. An inspection is going on,” the Airport Director, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport, Kolkata, said.

All passengers and crew, including the captain, have been shifted to a hotel. A replacement aircraft is expected to arrive around 4 am on Wednesday, with passengers scheduled to depart at approximately 6 am IST.
