Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the Rajya Sabha while replying to the Motion of Thanks to the Presidential address and touched upon several key issues as well as the achievements of the government. Citing the recent 'Mother of all deals' with the European Union and the trade deal with the US after a hiatus, PM Modi said that the world was opening up to India and weighing India as a great prospect for the global economy.

The Prime Minister also launched a scathing attack on the Opposition, especially the Congress, citing several issues that he claimed had plagued India's progress over the years.

Here are some of the excerpts from the PM's Rajya Sabha speech:

  • Big countries are very eager to have trade relations with India. Be it the trade deal with the European Union or the recent deal with the US. The entire world is openly praising these trade deals. When we signed the trade deal with the EU, the world became more confident about the greater likelihood of global stability. After the trade deal with the US, the world became even more confident that, with stability, they could sense speed too. This is a positive sign for the world.

  • A significant part of our energy is being spent on correcting the mistakes of the past. It takes great effort to erase the image that was created in the minds of the world during that period, they left things in such a damaged state. That is why we have placed strong emphasis on future-ready policies. Today, the country is being governed on the basis of policy and strategy. Global trust in India is growing. Guided by the mantra of ‘reform, perform, transform,’ we have moved forward, and the reality today is that the nation has boarded the Reform Express.

  • The first quarter of the 21st century has completed. But this second quarter is decisive, just like the second quarter of India's freedom struggle in the last century was. I can clearly see that in the direction of building Viksit Bharat, this second quarter is going to be equally capable.

  • In the journey of Viksit Bharat, previous years have been the years of rapid development of the country. This has been the era of change in every walk of life, in evey section of society. The country is going ahead in the right direction at a fast pace.

  • Colleagues from Trinamool Congress said a lot of things. But they should look within themselves. A cruel government is making new records in all the parameters of downfall. But they are lecturing us here. The future of the people is plunging into darkness but they (State Govt) do not care. They have no aspirations besides being in power. They are lecturing here. Prosperous nations of the world are driving out illegal residents from their country. But in our country, pressure is being put on the courts. How can the youth of our nation forgive such people who are using everything possible to advocate for the infiltrators?

The Sardar Sarovar dam on Narmada river was planned even before I was born in 1950. Now, look at the seriousness and efficiency of successive Congress governments, that the dam was eventually completed and inaugurated by me when I became the Prime Minister.

  • Members of the Opposition parties used pathetic language against the President of India – the highest Constitutional position in the country. They used bad words about a tribal woman who has risen right from the bottom and a humble background and reached the highest office in the country. This should be condemned in the strongest of terms.

  • There does not pass a day when the Opposition does not hurl abuses at me. They talk of digging Modi's grave. Is it because we fight terrorism the best way possible? Is it because we give a befitting reply to Pakistan and its terror factory? Is it because we carry out Operation Sindoor? Is it because we have taken the nation on a path of economic progress? Where does this hatred stem from?

  • The Congress has a problem with Assam. Why did they oppose Bhupen Hazarika being conferred upon the Bharat Ratna? Bhupen Hazarika has contributed a lot to the unity of the Northeast region. The yuvraj of Congress is so high on arrogance that he addressed a respected Member of Parliament as a 'gaddaar (traitor)'. Ravneet Singh Bittoo is a patriot. His family has sacrificed a lot for this country. They do not have any right to call him a traitor. Their hatred for the Sikh community has been exposed.

  • One of the MPs was saying a lot of things. His entire government is drowning in liquor. Their 'sheeshmahal' became a reason for hatred in every household. Be it Congress, TMC, DMK, Left – they were in power at the Centre for decades. They were also in power in states. But during their time, Bofors was mentioned when deals were discussed.
