India Today Woman Summit 2018: Around the world in 254 days, members of INS Tarini open up about their journeys

Addressing the audience, Lt Cdr Vartika Joshi, Team Leader, INS Tarini talked about her journey of heading a team of five members. "It was a tough mental and physical regime. Navy had trained us right from the basics. Most of the crew belongs to the mountains and most hadn't been on a boat ever. Six of us lived in not more than 10X5 metre space. It was difficult to understand each other initially. There can be plenty of solutions and to collate all the thoughts together and come out with a viable solution. We learnt all the tricks of the trade in that year and a half."

Lt Cdr Aishwarya Boddapati, Team Member, INS Tarini, said, "We have to be prepared for a stormy weather and also no winds, that's when we would try to motivate each other. We celebrated everything we could - birthdays and festivals."

"I don't know if the ocean is safer than the streets, but it's definitely more clean and less polluted out in the sea." said Lt Cdr Aishwarya Boddapati, Team Member, INS Tarini.
