Politics, law, cinema, business and the 'Icon of India' speaker: India Today Conclave 2023 ends on a grand note

The second day of the India Today Conclave 2023 started with External Affairs Minister Dr Jaishankar's session on 'War, markets, mega power shifts and India’s new voice in the world'.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, speaking at the India Today Conclave 2023, said, "The G-20 was invented to look at global goals and growth. It was side-tracked due to the Ukraine invasion."

In the second session, Law minister Kiren Rijiju spoke on constitutional democracy, Justice for All. "In a democratic setup, there can be different opinions. To say there is a confrontation between the judiciary and the government is not correct. The government is strengthening the judiciary," law minister said. 

Law minister Kiren Rijiju also spoke on several key topics including the appointment of judges, same-sex marriage, among others.

On Day 2 of the India Today Conclave 2023, former CJI SA Bobde spoke on Setting Precedent: Who gets to judge the judges? Arguments and counter argument.

Asked whether the executive should have a say in the judiciary, SA Bobde said, "The executive's opinion is important. Consultation with executives can be done with the help of CJI."
 

In the following session, former CJI UU Lalit spoke on shape and sanctity of court and chair.

When asked about the independence of courts, UU Lalit said, "I do not subscribe to that view. Look at the case of Siddique Kappan. We granted him bail. Courts are completely independent. It is very easy for someone from outside to criticize."

In the next session at the India Today Conclave 2023, educator, clinical psychologist, parent and experts discussed why children are self-harming themselves. They also shared insights on teenage depression. 

Pranavi Khandekar, a psychology student, while speaking at India Today Conclave 2023 opened up about how she battled depression. "It is an escape from reality. It is an entangled mess of wire. I felt choked and frustrated," she said.

Chintan Rachchh, Cwaayal Singh, Gurfateh Singh Pirzada, Moses Koul, Naina Bhan and Zeyn Shaw, the cast of the Netflix series Class, shared their insights on teenage dystopia. 

Geneticist David Sinclair spoke on jaw-drop science of age, disease reversal on the second day of the India Today Conclave 2023. David Sinclair said, "Science is at a point where we understand what age reversal is. The technology is far beyond faster."

Geneticist, David Sinclair, while speaking at the India Today conclave 2023, said, "I have learned to skip meals over time. My goal is not to eat a large meal. I eat a happy meal on the weekend."

Bollywood actor Janhvi Kapoor, best known for her roles in Dhadak and Gunjan Saxena, spoke on the power of hope, youth and storytelling on the second day of the India Today Conclave 2023. She also shared her insight on what it takes to live in the spotlight. 

Former NASA scientist, Anita Sengupta, while speaking at the India Today Conclave 2023, shared her insights on Mars landings and inventing electric planes on Earth. 

"The sky is not the limit, only the beginning," ex-NASA scientist Anita Sengupta talked about her journey from engineering at NASA to entrepreneurialism and Green Hydrogen at India Today Conclave 2023. 

"An engineering degree is the best you can get. It teaches you how to think, it teaches you how to solve problems, and with that, you can do anything," she said.

Byju's co-founders, Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath, while speaking at the India Today Conclave 2023, shared their insights on dreaming big in India. 

Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud, spoke on 'Justice in the Balance: My idea of India. And the importance of separation of powers in a democracy' at India Today Conclave 2023.

"We look at merit and previous judgments while making appointments," said CJI DY Chandrachud on the collegium system while speaking at the India Today Conclave.

"We are growing, but the sequential quarter growth is declining. This means the Indian economy is losing steam," P Chidambaram, former Union minister of finance and home affairs, said at India Today Conclave 2023.

"Economics is not about scoring a run or a six on every ball. It's about being able to stitch together a long inning and create a larger income range for its citizens," Neelkanth Mishra, equity strategist, Credit Suisse and advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Supriya Shrinate, chairperson of Social Media and Digital Platform, Congress and Amit Malviya, in-charge, National Information and Technology Department, BJP, engaged in a discussion on political campaigns and social media narratives at India Today Conclave 2023. 

Indian Hotels MD and CEO Puneet Chhatwal, PVR CMD Ajay Bijli, and SpiceJet CEO Ajay Singh discussed what it takes to bounce back and survive at India Today Conclave 2023.

While speaking at India Today Conclave, SpiceJet CEO Ajay Singh shared three things he learned during the pandemic, which are - to try and find opportunity in the crisis, the importance of automation, and never presume that the worst cannot hit you.

Actor-model Malaika Arora spoke on love, sex, ageism. And topping the body-beautiful conversation for 25 years, at India Today Conclave 2023

"I love being called a sex symbol. I would rather be known as a sex symbol than be called plain Jane. I am very happy with the tag," Malaika Arora said.

"Being able to drop the surname and going back to my maiden surname has given me a sense of self," said Malaika Arora on being asked about divorce and giving up the famous surname (Khan) at India Today Conclave 2023. 

The actress also talked about dating a younger man, Arjun Kapoor. Malaika said, "The fact that he is younger, keeps me younger and keeps me happy. And I think a lot of women will agree with me on that."

India Today Conclave 2023 reached its crescendo with the keynote address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the 'Icon of India' speaker.

"It is extra special to see India Today Group's optimism," said PM Modi on 'The India Moment' theme. 

During his keynote address at the India Today Conclave 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi listed his government's achievements in the first 75 days of 2023.

Highlighting the theme this is 'India's Moment', PM Modi concluded his key address at the India Today Conclave 2023 by saying, India will keep marching ahead. "Some people are attacking our democracy, but India will keep marching ahead," said PM Modi.
