Delhi erupts in protest over gangrape of girl in bus

JNU students shouted slogans outside Vasant Vihar Police station and blocked traffic on the Outer Ring Road in Delhi.

Jawaharlal Nehru University students took to the streets and held protest in Delhi, demanding justice for the gangrape victim.

MPs in both Houses of Parliament demanded stringent laws to curb such heinous crime against women.

Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan got emotional and broke down in Rajya Sabha, saying the House has plenty of time to discuss other issues, but only when it comes to women, it does not have the time.

BSP chief Mayawati cautioned the government on the alarming crime condition in Delhi, and said a stronger law was needed to deal with the anti-social elements indulging in such incidents.

BJP leader Smriti Irani demanded the police to step up patrolling in the city, and for CCTV cameras to be installed in DTC buses.

BJP leader Ram Jethmalani also spoke out and demanded the resignation of the Delhi Police chief.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said that the government should take immediate and stern action against the culprits.

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said the gang rape on board the private bus was not a one-off incident, but that it has been happening for a long. She advocated death sentence for the rapists.

Senior Congress MP Girija Vyas blamed the police and the prevailing system for repeated rape incidents.
