Vishal Dadlani has sharply criticised Anuv Jain’s performance with English singer-songwriter Jacob Collier during the Mumbai leg of Collier’s Djesse Vol. 4 World Tour, calling the act “embarrassing” and questioning why such collaborations are put on stage.

Jacob Collier’s stop in Mumbai was meant to be a celebratory night for music lovers, but the surprise collaboration on stage has instead turned into a full-blown online debate. During the concert at Nesco Centre in Goregaon on 30 November, Collier invited Jain to perform his hit Baarishen. What followed sparked criticism from several concertgoers and social media users, with the conversation getting sharper once Vishal Dadlani weighed in.

Fans and social media users were equally unimpressed with the rendition of Jain’s ‘Baarishen’, performed with Collier. Clips from the concert quickly attracted comments like “I don't blame him meri bhi personally fatt jati Jacob ke samne tbh” and “what even happened here,” highlighting the mismatch many felt between the two artists.

Here's the viral post:

Dadlani joined the chorus under the video, writing, “Is it necessary to keep doing embarrassing s***e like this? Is it part of some corporate mandate somewhere?” His remark echoed sentiments from an earlier statement this year, where he criticised music labels for pushing “basic-to-bad” singers onto large stages, calling it “embarrassing for the country, the artiste, the public, as well as the scene.”

Here's what Vishal Dadlani commented:

The exchange has sparked a fresh conversation about how live acts are curated for big-ticket concerts and whether Indian stages are prioritising popularity over performance quality.

Anuv Jain has not responded publicly to the backlash, while Jacob Collier’s Mumbai show continues to trend online for the mixed reactions it received.
