Maharashtra Municipal Election Result Highlights: Saffron sweep in civic polls, Latur cheap consolation for Congress

The Congress, which contested the polls in alliance with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, won elections to the Latur Municipal Corporation, bagging a clear majority with 43 seats in the 70-member body, leaving the BJP a distant second at 22.

In Nagpur, home turf of CM Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari, results showed the Congress struggling to make significant inroads despite an aggressive campaign.

Results of all the 151 seats in the 151-member Nagpur civic body have been declared. The BJP got 102 seats, while the Congress got 34 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has swept the polls in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. As of now, the counting has been concluded in 150 wards, and the BJP has won 100 seats. The Shinde-led Shiv Sena has bagged two. 

Among the opposition parties, the Congress has put up a slightly better show with 35 seats.

In the Thane Municipal Corporation, the dominance of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena remained intact as the BJP-Sena alliance emerged victorious with 103 seats, with Shiv Sena emerging as the single largest party with 75 seats. The BJP has won 28 seats as of now. Among the 131 wards, counting has been completed in 128 wards.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the single largest party in the Pune Municipal Corporation, grabbing 123 wards out of 165 seats. 

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Nationalist Congress Party Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP), which came together, failed to impress, as they together won just 25 seats.

In the Mumbai Civic Body elections, the BJP-Shiv Sena has won 114 seats, touching the majority mark as of now. Till now, the results have been declared in 221 wards, and the alliance has bagged 114 out of them.

The Indian National Congress, which contested the BMC polls alone, has won 23 seats till now. 

Following the poor performance of the Maharashtra and Mumbai Civic Polls, Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut took a jibe at Eknath Shinde, claiming that had he not betrayed Shiv Sena, Mumbai would not have got a BJP mayor. 

He also addressed Shinde as Jaichand, a king who betrayed Prithviraj Chauhan.

In his press conference, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that he and his party do not care about who will become the Mayor of Mumbai. Instead, they are concerned about the electoral choice that the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra have made. 

Addressing a press conference, Shinde said that the Prime Minister has a dream to make Mumbai the fintech capital, and all of them will work together to make the dream a reality. He also said that Shiv Sena wants Mumbai to be a significant part in India's 5 trillion economy goals.

Following the massive success in Maharashtra and Mumbai Civic Polls, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated party colleagues.

"The emphatic verdict in Maharashtra’s municipal elections is a strong endorsement of the BJP-led NDA Mahayuti and its commitment to development-driven governance. This mandate reflects the people’s trust in the BJP’s vision and pro-people policies under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji. I congratulate Maharashtra Chief Minister @Dev_Fadnavis, Deputy Cgief Minister Shri @mieknathshinde and State BJP President Shri @RaviDadaChavan. I would also like to commend every BJP Karyakarta for their efforts on the ground, which have contributed to this outstanding result," he wrote on X.

The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has swept the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. BJP has emerged as the single largest party by grabbing 65 seats, followed by Shiv Sena (Shinde) with 44. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the success of the BJP-Sena alliance in the Maharashtra Civic Body polls. He said that the people of Maharashtra voted in the name of Mahayuti's good governance and welfare schemes. 

"Thank you, Maharashtra! The enthusiastic people of the state have blessed the NDA's agenda of public welfare and good governance! The results of various municipal corporation elections show that the bond between the NDA and the people of Maharashtra has become even stronger. The experience of our performance and the vision of development have touched the hearts of the people. I express heartfelt gratitude to all the people of Maharashtra. This mandate will give greater momentum to progress and is a celebration of the glorious culture connected with the state," he wrote.

Six Maharashtra Navanirman Sena candidates have registered their victory in the Mumbai local body polls.

Following the massive success in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai congratulated his colleagues in Maharashtra. 

"The people of Mumbai have spoken with crystal clarity! The historic victory of the Mahayuti alliance in the BMC elections is a resounding endorsement of development-first governance. From the grassroots of local bodies to the halls of the parliament, this is the Triple Engine that delivers real, tangible development for every citizen. While the opposition trafficked in divisive narratives aimed at fragmenting the people, Mumbai chose unity, progress, and inclusive growth.

Extending my heartfelt congratulations to Maharashtra CM Thiru @Dev_Fadnavis avl and Dy CM Thiru @mieknathshinde avl, karyakarthas of BJP and leaders of the Mahayuti Alliance for this astounding victory. The opposition was banking on the failed strategy of dividing Mumbaikars along linguistic and regional lines, a 20th-century relic the people soundly rejected. While our NDA government talks about development infrastructure, jobs, and growth, the opposition clung to an archaic narrative of regional animosity. Mumbaikars chose substance over divisiveness," he wrote on X.

The counting in the Mumbai Civic Body polls has been concluded in 187 seats. It will begin in 30 more seats. In 10 seats, the counting is stuck.

Following the massive victory in the Mumbai Civic Body elections, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his gratitude to the voters of Mumbai and Maharashtra. He also thanked his alliance partners as well as the senior leadership of the BJP.

He further noted that Mahayuti's flag will rise high in Mumbai from the present-day onwards.

On the massive success of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in the Maharashtra Civic Body elections, BJP leader Pankaja Munde told ANI, "PM has done a lot for development in the country as well as Maharashtra. Similarly, a lot has been done by CM Devendra Fadnavis and our alliance. This is a victory of that."
