Dhawan's current score is the second-highest score by a debutant against Australia. England's Tip Foster holds the record for the highest (287) which was scored way back in 1903.

He has faced lesser balls than his partner Vijay and scored more than double the number of runs. He got a standing ovation as he walked into the dressing room.

Dhawan took full advantage with the most breathtaking century for India, its 85-ball duration the swiftest ever by a Test debutant.
