Crematoriums working round the clock amid surge in Covid-19 deaths

In the backdrop of rising deaths owing to Covid-19, crematoriums across the country are being overwhelmed with bodies and running round the clock.

India recorded the world’s highest daily tally of 314,835 coronavirus cases on Thursday as a second wave of the pandemic raised new fears about the ability of crumbling health services to cope.

India reported 2,104 more deaths due to coronavirus with maximum deaths being reported from Maharashtra at 568, followed by Delhi at 249 on Thursday

Over the past few weeks, many Covid-19 patients have died due to the unavailability of medical oxygen in hospitals situated in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharastra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

With Delhi witnessing nearly a ten-fold increase in the number of daily deaths due to Covid-19 since the beginning of this month, all the cremation grounds and burial grounds have increased their capacity.

Cases in India have been skyrocketing since February and the daily Covid-19 caseload in the country has tripled in the last 17 days.
