A 26-year-old business owner was hospitalised after being viciously attacked while allegedly intervening to stop a group of men from molesting a woman in south Delhi's Mehrauli, police said on Wednesday. Four accused have been arrested in the case.

According to police, a PCR call was received on February 3 about an assault in the area. A team was rushed to the spot, where they found a man, identified as Mukesh, injured. He was first taken to Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital and later shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for specialised treatment.

An initial inquiry revealed that the attackers had allegedly harassed a young woman. When Mukesh, a transport businessman, protested against the act, the group turned on him and assaulted him before fleeing the spot.

Based on the woman's statement, police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

"Dedicated teams were formed to identify and trace the offenders. Through coordinated action, all four accused were located and arrested," a police officer said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
