Nissan’s upcoming mid-size SUV, the Tekton, has been spotted testing once again on Indian roads, and this time the spy shots reveal key interior details for the first time.

Despite heavy camouflage, the test mule hints at a traditional SUV silhouette with an upright stance and short overhangs. The test mule appears to be a fully loaded variant, riding on large 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225-section tyres.

The Tekton will share its core platform with the Renault Duster, however, Nissan is expected to give the Tekton a distinct visual and cabin identity inspired by its larger global SUVs. According to the company, while the Nissan Tekton is underpinned by the shared CMF-B platform, all other aspects, from its design and interior to its overall identity have been independently developed by Nissan.

Positioned above the Magnite, the Tekton will be Nissan’s mainstay in the 4.2–4.4 metre SUV category, a space it exited after discontinuing the Kicks in 2023.

Although the camouflage hides most body details, several design cues are clearly visible. Up front, the Tekton is expected to feature a Nissan-specific fascia with slim, wide-set LED daytime running lamps and a connected light signature, setting it apart from its Renault sibling. The headlamps and tail-lamps are likely to be unique, while certain elements such as fog lamps may be shared.

The side profile looks relatively uncluttered, with restrained body cladding lending the SUV a more premium appearance. At the rear, the tail-lamps appear to be horizontally oriented, complemented by a broad tailgate design. Overall, the Tekton is expected to follow Nissan’s global SUV design language, drawing inspiration from models like the Patrol sold overseas.

Interior and features

The first interior image confirms that the Tekton will get a flat-bottom steering wheel, steering-mounted controls and a fully digital instrument cluster. Nissan is likely to differentiate the cabin from the Duster with its own dashboard layout, textures, colour themes and trim finishes.

Feature highlights are expected to be comprehensive and could include a large touchscreen infotainment system running Google-based software, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS.

Engines and powertrains

While official specifications are yet to be announced, the Tekton is expected to mirror the powertrain options of the new-generation Duster. These could include:

  • A 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 100hp and 160Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual
  • A more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering about 163bhp and 280Nm, offered with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DCT
  • A strong hybrid option combining a 1.8-litre petrol engine with electric assistance, backed by a 1.4kWh battery.

The hybrid version is likely to arrive later, following Renault’s rollout of the Duster hybrid in India, expected around Diwali.

Launch timeline still unclear

Nissan had earlier hinted at unveiling the Tekton on February 4, but the reveal did not take place. This follows a similar delay with the brand’s upcoming Gravite sub-4m MPV, whose launch has now been pushed to February 17.

With test mules continuing to rack up miles, the Tekton’s launch is expected to take place sometime after the new Duster enters the market. Once launched, it will square off against heavyweights such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the MG Astor.
