The Taliban on Wednesday banned sports for Afghan women including cricket, saying sporting activities would "expose their bodies".
Ahmadullah Wasiq, deputy head of the Taliban's cultural commission, told media that sports activities were not necessary for women.
The development comes after the Taliban on Tuesday announced the formation of a new interim government headed by Mullah Hassan Akhund in Afghanistan.
