United States President Donald Trump said that the US wants a larger role for India in Afghanistan, even as he overcame his own doubts about a war that his country entered in October 2001 after the 9/11 attacks.
Trump also sharply criticised Pakistan for offering "safe havens" for terrorists, and warned Islamabad that it has "much to lose" if it continues to harbour terrorists.
Trump was delivering a policy statement, offering a glimpse of how the US's war Afghanistan and role in South Asia would like under his presidency. He said that his administration had conducted "comprehensive review" of the US's Afghanistan strategy and decided that the policy will change from a "time-based approach to one based on conditions".
