The Ireland-India Council has cancelled its annual India Day Celebration and Festival, scheduled for this Sunday, citing safety concerns. This decision follows a series of recent unprovoked attacks against members of the Indian community in Ireland, including a six-year-old child. The event, held every year since 2015, will not proceed due to fears of further racial attacks. According to reports, police in Ireland have been unable to contain the violence, with perpetrators, many of whom are minors, facing little action. Aparna Shukla, the head of the Ireland-India Council, stated that, âthe India Council is not going to celebrate Independence Day this year.â The cancellation occurs even after Ireland's Deputy Prime Minister, Simon Harris, met with the Indian community and condemned what he called âdespicable acts of violence.â
