Legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar said his father, Ramesh Tendulkar gave him the freedom to do whatever he wanted in life and that has been his parenting mantra as well.
In a freewheeling chat with India Today Consulting Editor Sports Boria Majumdar on the latest episode of India Today Inspiration, Sachin Tendulkar shed light on his childhood, his maiden tour to Pakistan and Australia and the most memorable moments in his career among other things.
Speaking about his father, who passed away during the 1999 World Cup, Sachin Tendulkar revealed he has been following Ramesh Tendulkar's footsteps when it comes to being a parent to his kids -- Sara and Arjun Tendulkar.
"As a father I want to do exactly what my father did for me. He gave me the freedom to be what I wanted to be in life. It was never: 'I'm a writer and you need to follow my footsteps'. So for Arjun also it was the same thing. I am a cricketer doesn't mean you have to play cricket." Tendulkar said.
"He earlier enjoyed playing football, chess and cricket started on its own, I didn't force him into it. So was the case with Sara also. Whatever she wanted to be in life, both Anjali and I supported her and said whatever you want to be in life don't find shortcuts and that's exactly what my father told me."
