Won't trade hockey for cricket, aim is to win Olympic gold in 2028: Hardik Singh

Hardik Singh, vice captain of the Indian hockey team, shared his optimism about India's chances at the 2028 Olympics, stating, 'There is absolutely no reason why India cannot win the gold in 2028.'

Singh discussed the journey of Indian hockey, the challenges faced by players in a cricket-dominated country, and the inspiration drawn from his family and village, which has produced multiple Olympic medalists. He highlighted the evolution of the sport, the importance of physical fitness, and the impact of foreign coaches and mental conditioning experts.

Singh also reflected on the unpredictability of sports, saying, 'You can do 99% of the things, but still, you can come last also.'

He emphasised the need to focus on upcoming tournaments like the World Cup and Asian Games as stepping stones to Olympic qualification.
