Leg-spinner Mohammad Mohsin said the United States will draw confidence from their memorable win over Pakistan in 2024 when the two sides meet again in a T20 World Cup clash on Tuesday, February 10, at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

At the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas two years ago, the USA stunned Pakistan after the match went into a Super Over. Current skipper Monank Patel starred with a composed half-century, while Saurabh Netravalkar then held his nerve to restrict Pakistan in the Super Over.

Mohsin, who impressed against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with figures of 4-0-16-1, said the USA will look to give Pakistan a tough fight in the upcoming encounter.

“Yes, we have. We spoke about it in a way where we carry forward that confidence we gained from beating them in the last World Cup and hopefully tomorrow we will be more confident than last time and we'll have a good fight against them,” Mohsin said in the pre-match press conference.

USA STRONGER AND MORE SKILLFUL

The 29-year-old Mohsin said that the United States have a stronger team this time around with far more skills. He said that having grown his skills, USA have a good chance of making Pakistan work card.

“I wasn’t part of the team at the last World Cup, but I was there and watched the game. The big difference this year is that our strength has increased. We have a more skilful side now even though the previous team was also talented, the overall skill level has gone up. We’re hoping to have a good game against them tomorrow and, hopefully, win again,” Mohsin added.

HOW DID USA PERFORM AGAINST INDIA?

Ahead of their clash against Pakistan, the United States will take confidence from a spirited showing against defending champions India, whom they pushed hard before going down by 29 runs in Mumbai. The USA opted to bowl first and made an immediate impact, with 37-year-old pacer Shadley van Schalkwyk ripping through India’s top order.

His three-wicket over left India struggling at 46 for four, as the American bowlers applied sustained pressure and exploited early movement on a tricky surface. India recovered from the collapse largely due to skipper Suryakumar Yadav, whose unbeaten 84 off 49 balls lifted them to a competitive 161 for nine.

In response, the USA displayed commendable resilience. Sanjay Krishnamurthi (37) and Milind Kumar (34) stitched together a 58-run partnership that briefly kept the chase alive, but regular wickets halted their momentum. The USA eventually finished on 132 for eight, a fighting total that underlined their growing ability to challenge top sides despite ending on the losing side.
