A composed, disciplined finish from Axar, who has arguably been India’s best bowler tonight. Australia, aware of his threat, wisely decided not to go after him. The chase remains finely balanced.

Despite losing a string of wickets in the middle and death overs, a late cameo from Axar Patel has helped the visitors to reach a total of 167 runs.

Questions will be raised on vice-captain Shubman Gill who played the most number of balls in the innings (39), but only scored 46 runs.

Mostly, the batters struggled today. Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma were not able to get going. Suryakumar Yadav hit two tremendous sixes but lost his wicket to Xavier Bartlett, trying to hit the third big shot of the night.

The Indian bowlers have their task cut out for them now.

Axar Patel is cracking some big shots in the final over as India desperately look to reach a respectable score!

He hits Stoinis through long-on for a four in the first ball and then cracks a big hit over square leg!

Axar takes 11 from the first threee balls, and that is perhaps the mistake he makes. He takes a single in the third ball of the over and gives Arshdeep the strike.

Stoinis gets the opportunity and bowls one across Arshdeep at pace. The tailender ends up slicing the ball in the air, and loses his wicket.

Wickets continue to tumble for India in the final overs.

It is Adam Zampa this time. Floated up, on off, Varma switches his stance and goes for the reverse. Reaches out in front and gets his hands low for the shot but fails to get any bat on it. The ball catches his gloves and lobs behind for the keeper, Josh Inglis to take a simple catch.

India are in freefall. They have lost their 5th wicket.

Wicket! And it is the Indian captain who loses his wicket while trying to hit the big shot.

Suryakumar Yadav was looking good, but he ends up handing Tim David a high catch at deep mid-wicket.

Suryakumar looked good but has to depart for 20 (10). Australia continue to chip away.

Just like he got the wicket of Shivam Dube, Ellis shatters the stumps of Gill.

Once again, a terrific slower delivery from Nathan Ellis. Good length ball, back of the hand, like a googly, says Abhishek Nayar on commentary. Gill goes hard at it, trying to club it through mid-wicket and the ball sneaks in.

Australia have their third and India lose a crucial wicket just when they were building some momentum.

The southpaw has been batting uncharacteristically at a lower strike rate than his usual standards. Shubman Gill has continued to deal in boundaries as he flicks Xavier Bartlett for a boundary on the leg side. The roles have been  reversed in the opening partnership as Gill is playing the role of the aggressor while Abhishek has taken a back seat.

The India vice-captain will be under immense pressure in the fourth T20I as scrutiny on his form increases.

India would have opted to bat had they won the toss, says captain Suryakumar Yadav. 

"This is what you play bilaterals for. Beautiful ground,nice and big one and everything to play for. Preparations have been good. We had a good practice session yesterday. It looks like subcontinent conditions. We were looking to bat first. The pitch looks similar to Indian conditions, so we want to put in the runs on the board," says India captain Suryakumar Yadav. 

Australia have made four changes to their XI. 

India, meanwhile, are unchanged. Sanju Samson will continue to warm the benches. No Nitish Reddy as well. Jitesh Sharma will keep wickets and Harshit Rana will also warm the benches. 

Meanwhile, Australia bring back Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa. 

Matt Short will open in the absence of Travis Head.

Big news: Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell are back for the Australians along with Ben Dwarshius and Josh Philippe. 

It's a bright evening in Gold Coast. Ravi Shastri is out there with Mitchell Marsh and Suryakumar Yadav for the toss. 

Australia will be bolstered by the return of Glenn Maxwell. Matt Short is likely to go to the top of the order in the absence of Travis Head, who was released for Ashes preparation.

Australia also will be without their frontline pacers Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott. They have Ben Dwarshius and Mahli Beardmann, a 20--year-old uncapped pacer to choose from.

The visitors might continue with the same XI, which also didn’t feature Kuldeep Yadav who was released to prepare for the South Africa Test series. Washington, after his match-winning 49 off 23, is expected to retain his place.

India might give an opportunity to Nitish Reddy in place of Shivam Dube. The Hyderabad all-rounder has recovered from the left quadriceps injury he picked up during the ODI series in Australia last month.

Is Shubman Gill no longer droppable? The vice-captain is under considerable pressure after having managed just one 40-plus score in the first three matches. 

Questions are being asked about his place in the side with former captain Kris Srikkanth asking how Gill deserved vice-captaincy. 

India broke the fearsome opening combination of Abhishek Sharma and Samson to accommodate Gill at the top in T20Is. While his elevation to vice-captaincy appeared to make him an automatic selection, questions have been raised about the merit of his place in the T20I set-up, particularly given the options available for the opening role.

India and Australia will return to action in the fourth of the five-match series today. The Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast is hosting a T20I for the first time since 2022. India have never played here. So there will be unfamiliarity in terms of the conditions here. 

India ensured they arrived at the Gold Coast early and had a couple of training sessions. 

The winner of today's match will seal an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the series.
