23:21 IST:
Signing off! That brings us to the end of this run-fest in Raipur, where India made it 2-0 with a chasing masterclass. Next, we shift our focus to Guwahati and the Barsapara Stadium for the third T20I of this five-match series on Sunday, 25th January, with India looking to seal the series and New Zealand needing a win to stay alive. The game will begin at 1.30 pm GMT (7 pm IST), but as always, you can join us early for all the build-up and coverage. For now, thanks for your company, take care, and we will see you at the next one.
23:19 IST:
Player of the match Ishan Kishan (76 off 32 balls) says his focus was firmly on what he needed to do and that he was in a good headspace for this game. He feels that at times, you simply know when you are batting well, and it was about watching the ball closely and playing good cricket shots. Chasing 209, Ishan acknowledges the importance of getting a solid start in the Powerplay. Mentions that he was able to connect well from the start and he backed himself. Ishan also highlights the importance of domestic cricket in earning his way back into the national side. He adds that when he was out of the national side, he kept asking himself if he could do it again.
23:28 IST:
The victorious skipper of India Suryakumar Yadav jokingly says that she does not know what Kishan had for lunch. Adds that he has never seen someone bat like that after being 6/2, and then end the Powerplay at around 70. Mentions that they want their batters to play like that and express themselves out there. Tells that he got angry as Kishan did not give him the strike in the Powerplay, but he got to assess the conditions. Says that he has been batting really well in the nets and had a good practice and a break before this game. Credits all his bowlers for the way they pulled things back, as at one point he thought they could be chasing 230-odd runs. Ends by saying that the mood in the camp is really good, and he is enjoying it and wants to keep it in that space.
23:28 IST:
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner reflects on the defeat. Asked how much is enough against this Indian side, he cheekily responds that maybe even 300 might not be enough against these guys. Santner says when you come up against a side that bats deep on a good wicket and with the way India came out, it becomes all about trying to squeeze wherever possible. He admits they know that 200 or 210 is unlikely to be enough and that his side needs to go harder with the bat to stay competitive. Santner also points out that some players are yet to come into the side and stresses the importance of keeping the group fresh with the World Cup in mind. He feels games like these are good learning experiences for the team. He further says that it was a very good wicket with a quick outfield, and cheekily adds that he needed to cash in with the bat as he had to bowl later on this wicket.

23:28 IST:
Shivam Dube has a quick chat.  He praises the batting from Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, calling it an amazing effort. Dube says Ishan played exactly what the team required, adding that while it was Abhishek Sharma who stepped up in the previous game, today it was Ishan who led the way. Talking about the mood in the camp after losing two early wickets, Dube jokes that he just told the physio to mobilise his back and shares that the atmosphere in the dressing room was pretty calm. Tells that they knew how the wicket was behaving here and says the belief in the group is strong, with every player having the ability to finish games. When asked about his promotion, he replies that it just depends on the situation. Mentions that the move was probably down to the left-right combination, with Ishan and Suryakumar at the crease and Hardik and himself next in. Tells that he is not really sure what a good total is on such surfaces, but the key to defending the totals is to pick early wickets and bowl well in the Powerplay.
23:26 IST:
One over that turned the tide! New Zealand will feel they missed a big opportunity after having the hosts where they wanted, with Henry and Duffy striking early. However, once Santner handed the third over to Foulkes, the momentum completely shifted as he was taken for 24 runs, and the Kiwis never really found a way back into the contest. Foulkes could not recover and ended up conceding 67 runs from his three overs. Sodhi did manage to pick up a wicket in the middle, but by then the damage had already been done. A few uncharacteristic dropped chances further summed up their night, showing just how much pressure they were under, and the wet conditions only added to their woes as they suffered a heavy defeat.
22:41 IST:
New Zealand's batting! Earlier in the game, after being asked to bat first, New Zealand posted a big total, although they might feel they left a few runs behind in the middle overs, given the strong start they made. They played with intent throughout despite losing wickets, with most batters getting starts, but the standout contributions came from Ravindra’s 44 off 26 and Santner’s unbeaten 47 off 27, which gave their bowlers a solid cushion in wet conditions. For India, Kuldeep and Varun slowed the scoring by sharing three wickets, while Pandya, Rana and Dube chipped in with one each, and although Arshdeep had a rare off day up front, he did pull things back a bit at the death.
23:22 IST:
Kishan and SKY power India to record chase! The big question was whether India could maintain their aggressive approach if Abhishek Sharma failed, and that was answered emphatically in this chase. After both openers were dismissed and India slipped to 6/2, Ishan Kishan continued his fine domestic form and launched a brutal assault on the New Zealand bowlers, bringing up his fifty in just 21 balls and racing to a fiery 76 off 32. SKY initially played second fiddle, but together they added a match-defining 122-run stand that broke the back of the chase. After Kishan’s dismissal, the skipper shifted gears to remain unbeaten on 82 off 37, his first fifty since 2024, while Dube chipped in with three sixes as India sealed their joint-highest successful chase in T20Is.
22:41 IST:
Men in Blue make light work of 209! India have made a mockery of this big chase with some incredible hitting. New Zealand might have thought they had a sniff after making early inroads, but that was as good as it got for them as they soon looked helpless and out of ideas. This is a statement win from the Men in Blue, chasing down 209 with more than four overs to spare, and the Kiwis will have plenty to think about, especially in their bowling department.
22:27 IST:
15.2: Daryl Mitchell to Shivam Dube, India romp home! Mitchell serves another short ball, around the left shoulder. Dube gets on his toes to ride the bounce and pulls it through mid-wicket for the winning run. The Men in Blue chase 209 in a canter as they get home with 28 balls to spare.

What is the fastest 200+ run chase ever in history of T20I cricket?

India are on the verge of breaking both records.

DRINKS! New Zealand have managed to get rid of Ishan Kishan and break the massive 122-run stand, but the damage has already been done here. They will need a couple of more wickets to put pressure back on India, but with the depth in batting the hosts have, they are favourites at the moment. However, we have seen stranger things happen in cricket, and if the Kiwis manage to test the middle order, they could still make a game out of this one. Also, Shivam Dube is the next batter in.
21:55 IST:
9.1: Ish Sodhi to Ishan Kishan, OUT! CAUGHT! The fireworks from Ishan Kishan are over. The googly does the trick for Ish Sodhi. This is flighted, full and outside off, Ishan walks across his stumps and gets low to unleash the slog sweep. He plays against the turn and the ball catches a top edge. It is skied towards short fine leg, where Matt Henry does not quite judge it that well and could have taken a step or two more in front to make the catch easier for himself. He reaches out in front in the end to take the catch. Ishan falls for 76 (32). India are now 128/3, chasing 81 runs from 65 balls.

An incredible innings from Ishan Kishan ends.

Kishan walked in at 6/2, and from there on has dominated the Kiwi side. This is a very important knock from Kishan, and one feels that if Tilak Varma does not get fully fit, this position will be his.

Incredible at No.3 Kishan. Take a bow young man.

Kishan completes his fifty in just 21 balls, the fastest by an Indian against New Zealand in T20Is.

This has been some superb batting from the No.3, and he is staking his claim for a permanent playing XI spot in the line-up.

IND vs NZ: Very poor call from the Kiwis

That is a very very poor call from Mitchell Santner.

Matt Henry, back in the side, creates 2 chances in the first over, and you take him off the attack?

He is a new ball bowler and perhaps the most effective when there is shine on the ball.

And you bring in Zak Foulkes?

This will simply relieve the pressure off the India batters.

... THE RUN CHASE ...
21:05 IST:
Mixed emotions for India! India will have mixed feelings about that effort. They will be disappointed with the finish, but considering the way New Zealand started, it could have been a lot worse. At the same time, after removing the likes of Ravindra, Mitchell, and Phillips, the home side would have hoped to keep the total under 200. A few of New Zealand’s dismissals came from batters going across the line, while India picked up some of their wickets by keeping the ball outside the hitting arc and making the batters reach. Valuable learnings for both teams. It should be an interesting chase. Stay tuned!
21:04 IST:
Middle muddle for the Black Caps! Once the 3rd wicket partnership was broken, the tourists struggled to build another significant stand as the Indian spinners adjusted their lines, consistently bowling outside the hitting arc. A scratchy phase followed for the tourists after they were reduced to 129/5 with more than 7 overs still left. Mark Chapman struggled to get going, while Mitchell Santner had a similar start but managed to flick the switch towards the end. Zakary Foulkes also chipped in with a valuable contribution.
21:02 IST:
208 on the board! The  Kiwis do get the desired finish, with 47 runs coming off the final three overs, but it could have been a lot more. They were 111/3 but managed 97 runs off the back 10 overs. A new opening combination at the top saw Tim Seifert join Devon Conway, and the pair came out swinging. Arshdeep Singh was taken to the cleaners early on before India struck back by removing both openers, though the Kiwis still managed to finish the Powerplay strongly. Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra then continued to take the game on through the middle phase, stitching together a rapid 55-run stand.

IND vs NZ: Interesting experiment with Dube

It is interesting the phases that Suryakumar Yadav has been bowling Shivam Dube in.

Since the Asia Cup, he has been given more responsibility with the ball. If Dube can give India 2 overs regularly, there are high chances that allows India to fit that one extra batter in Rinku Singh.

IND vs NZ: Terrible review

That has to be one of the worst reviews that I have every seen. Varun was desperate to get a call on that, and Suryakumar also casually indulged.

One of those unserious moments on the field where you just do not want to argue with your best bowler too much.

20:03 IST:
10.5: Varun Chakaravarthy to Daryl Mitchell, A huge shout for LBW but turned down! Was the impact outside the line? Looked like it. Suryakumar Yadav checks with the keeper and the bowler before taking the review. Bowled from the back of the hand, flatter and fuller, on off, Mitchell drops on a knee for the sweep but the ball sneaks under the blade to hit him on the crouched back thigh. No bat involed but as expected, the impact is well outside the line. India burn a review.

Drinks break! Quite an eventful first 10 overs. We have had everything. A wicket-maiden, and as many as 7 overs going for 15 runs or more. New Zealand have come out swinging and maintained that intent through the first half of their batting effort. The batters have been able to hit through the line, and with the dew already settling in, the ball has skimmed quickly across the outfield. The Kiwis will look to keep pushing, with plenty of batting still to come. Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy both have a couple of overs left, and those 4 overs will be crucial if India are to keep the tourists to a manageable total.

IND vs NZ Live Score: Will this change the momentum of the match

Not ideal for New Zealand to lose Glenn Phillips' wicket, but this short partnership might have changed the momentum for them.

This is exactly the template that India also bat in right, but at a much higher tempo.

Phillips scored just 19 off 13, but more importantly played a part in NZ adding 50 runs in just 25 balls.

This is a high scoring ground, and one would need a total north of 220 to have any chance in this game.

IND vs NZ Live: Dew already making its mark

The bad news for the bowlers is that the dew has already begun to settle in. Grip is becoming a luxury, and for the spinners especially, the challenge is obvious — there’s barely any turn on offer and precious little margin for error.

With conditions tilting firmly in favour of the batters, the big question now is tactical. Do India go into damage-control mode and defend what they can, or do they sense an opportunity to push harder and wrest back momentum?

Either way, the next few overs could well define how this contest shapes up.

Varun leads the way

At this point, Varun Chakaravarthy picking up wickets almost feels inevitable. Another fine spell, another timely breakthrough, and just when the openers were beginning to threaten, he steps in to douse the early fire.

The control has been excellent, the variations subtle, and the impact immediate. That said, the job is far from finished. The platform may have been dented, but the middle order still holds plenty of firepower.

2nd T20I Live: Harshit showing why GG backs him

Top-class stuff from Harshit Rana here. He began with a clear understanding that Conway would be looking to take him on, and the control over his lengths reflected that awareness straight away. Nothing loose, nothing in the slot — just disciplined, intelligent bowling.

And that wicket could prove absolutely pivotal in the context of this innings. What makes it even more impressive is the manner in which it came — a wicket-maiden, no less. In a format where even a dot feels like a win, moments like these are rare.

India vs New Zealand Live: Hardik shows how its done

Hardik Pandya, it seems, has taken note of what went wrong in the opening over and adjusted his approach smartly. The variation has been spot on, with subtle changes in pace and length keeping the batter guessing. The occasional short ball, in particular, has worked well, unsettling Seifert and breaking his rhythm.

Yes, a boundary or two did sneak through, but that felt more like misfortune than poor bowling — a nothing heave that found its way to the fence with luck firmly on the batter’s side.

With that said, the surface already looks a beauty for batting. The ball is coming on nicely, timing is easy, and if this continues, a high-scoring contest could well be in store.

IND vs NZ Live: A horror start for India

That was certainly not what India was hoping for. And in that passage of play, it felt as though the hosts had drifted away from the template that worked so well in the first game.

Arshdeep Singh tried to stick to a similar plan, but the variation that brought him success earlier was missing. The in-and-out swing that kept batters guessing never quite appeared, and with the lengths and angles becoming predictable, the margin for error disappeared quickly. The result was inevitable — pressure released, momentum handed back.

There needed to be more imagination in that over, more disguise, more change of pace. Instead, India paid the price for a brief but costly lapse in execution.
