That has to be one of the worst reviews that I have every seen. Varun was desperate to get a call on that, and Suryakumar also casually indulged.
One of those unserious moments on the field where you just do not want to argue with your best bowler too much.
Not ideal for New Zealand to lose Glenn Phillips' wicket, but this short partnership might have changed the momentum for them.
This is exactly the template that India also bat in right, but at a much higher tempo.
Phillips scored just 19 off 13, but more importantly played a part in NZ adding 50 runs in just 25 balls.
This is a high scoring ground, and one would need a total north of 220 to have any chance in this game.
The bad news for the bowlers is that the dew has already begun to settle in. Grip is becoming a luxury, and for the spinners especially, the challenge is obvious — there’s barely any turn on offer and precious little margin for error.
With conditions tilting firmly in favour of the batters, the big question now is tactical. Do India go into damage-control mode and defend what they can, or do they sense an opportunity to push harder and wrest back momentum?
Either way, the next few overs could well define how this contest shapes up.
At this point, Varun Chakaravarthy picking up wickets almost feels inevitable. Another fine spell, another timely breakthrough, and just when the openers were beginning to threaten, he steps in to douse the early fire.
The control has been excellent, the variations subtle, and the impact immediate. That said, the job is far from finished. The platform may have been dented, but the middle order still holds plenty of firepower.

Not many Indian bowlers have enjoyed that luxury in recent times, and Rana has delivered it when it matters most.
It’s turning into one of those nights for Arshdeep — the kind where nothing quite goes to plan and the runs just keep coming. We’ve seen this pattern before, where a difficult first spell tends to snowball if not checked quickly.
The key now is how India manage the moment. Can Suryakumar Yadav step in, have a quiet word, slow things down and help his bowler find his rhythm again? Because if Arshdeep is to make an impact tonight, the reset needs to happen soon.

The variation has been spot on, with subtle changes in pace and length keeping the batter guessing. The occasional short ball, in particular, has worked well, unsettling Seifert and breaking his rhythm.
Yes, a boundary or two did sneak through, but that felt more like misfortune than poor bowling — a nothing heave that found its way to the fence with luck firmly on the batter’s side.
With that said, the surface already looks a beauty for batting. The ball is coming on nicely, timing is easy, and if this continues, a high-scoring contest could well be in store.
That was certainly not what India was hoping for. And in that passage of play, it felt as though the hosts had drifted away from the template that worked so well in the first game.
Arshdeep Singh tried to stick to a similar plan, but the variation that brought him success earlier was missing. The in-and-out swing that kept batters guessing never quite appeared, and with the lengths and angles becoming predictable, the margin for error disappeared quickly. The result was inevitable — pressure released, momentum handed back.
There needed to be more imagination in that over, more disguise, more change of pace. Instead, India paid the price for a brief but costly lapse in execution.
