Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Day 2 of the first Test between England and India from Headingley at Leeds.

India dominated Day 1 of the Test match, scoring 359 runs for the loss of three wickets. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored centuries while Rishabh Pant played a fantastic knock in the final session of the first day.

While Day 1 was hot, sunny and dry, Day 2 is expected to have overcast conditions with much more help for the fast bowlers. Will the England team be able to make a comeback, or will it be India's day once again in the first Test match in Leeds.

England snatch Day 2 dominance from India

India were flying in the morning, with vice-captain Rishabh Pant smashing a sensational century and Shubman Gill joining the fun. At 430/3, fans were dreaming of 550+. But hold on… enter the England fightback! A lower-order meltdown saw India crash to 471 all out — from 430/3 to 471/10. Ouch.

Rain tried to gatecrash the action, but it cleared up in time for Jasprit Bumrah to serve an early reminder — sending Zak Crawley back for a duck in the very first over. Classic Bumrah vibes.

But then... Duckett and Pope had other ideas. The duo weathered the storm (literally and figuratively), survived dropped catches, edges, and close calls to stitch a 122-run partnership that sucked the momentum right out of India.

Just when things looked flat for the visitors, who else but Bumrah to charge back in! He cleaned up Duckett and even got the big fish, Joe Root — all three wickets for India on Day 2 belong to one man.

Still, Ollie Pope is standing tall and has Harry Brook for company. England end Day 2 on top, and India have a mountain of work to do on Day 3 — starting with finding a second bowler who’s not named Jasprit Bumrah!

ENG vs IND Live: Bumrah's no-balls save Brook

Jasprit Bumrah is in for the final over of the day. Brook does not seem too fazed here as Bumrah keeps hitting the outside off-stump line. The bowler gives away a no-ball as well. Brook remains watchful here as Bumrah goes for a slower ball. Umpire once again signals for the no-ball here.

Bumrah goes short here and Brook gets the top-edge and finds the fielder here. Siraj takes the catch but oh wait! Umpire signals yet another no ball here. Utter disappointment for the Indain camp.

Bumrah shows his aggression and goes full with the yorker. The last ball of the day and Bumrah leaves Brook bamboozled. Short and goes just past Brook's head despite making a slight jump.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (209/3 in 49 overs), trail by 262 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (100*), Harry Brook (0*)

Leeds Test live: Futile appeal by Jadeja

Jadeja is in for what could be the penultimate over of the day. Comes over the wicket against Pope and gets it on the pads. Appeals but is denied by the umpire. Looked to be pitching easily outside the leg side.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (206/3 in 47 overs), trail by 265 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (100*), Harry Brook (0*)

ENG vs IND Live: Bumrah gives the breakthrough

There it is and once again it is Bumrah who brings in the breakthrough. Root misjudges the bounce and gets the edges which carries on to the man at first-slip who makes no mistakes with the catch.

Joe Root 28(58) c. K Nair b. J Bumrah

Leeds Test live: 100 for Pope

Interesting change here as Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack in place of Shardul Thakur who has been leaking way too many runs. He starts off with the length delivery on the third or fourth stump line on the off-side. Root just touches and goes for the single. Pope is on 99 and is up against Bumrah. Perhaps the yorker that got him out before?

Length delivery here but too wide on the off-side here. Gets the inside edge here but misses the stumps. Pope gets the single and the crowds are up applauding the batter here for his brilliant display.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (206/2 in 46.2 overs), trail by 265 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (100*), Joe Root (28*)

ENG vs IND Live: Runs continue to flow for England

Ravindra Jadeja continues his spell. Looks to waste some time here with the field changes here. Four runs from the over and all eyes will be on Pope as he eyes his century.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (204/2 in 46 overs), trail by 267 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (98*), Joe Root (27*)

Leeds Test live: Shardul leaking runs

Change of ends for Shardul Thakur but no change in the outcome as Pope slaps the delivery wide on the off-stump straight to the boundary by the deep point region to start things off. Follows it up with another as Thakur errs in his line and Pope flicks it away to the fine-leg region. Umpire calls it leg-byes here. Another no-ball here. Expensive start by Thakur here and he is not doing himself any favours. England bring up 200 runs on the scoreboard in fairly quick time.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (200/2 in 45 overs), trail by 271 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (97*), Joe Root (25*)

ENG vs IND Live: Jadeja back into the attack

Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack. Just like that he gets the over done with. Just the two runs from the over here as Pope his slowly trickling his way for the hundred.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (188/2 in 44 overs), trail by 283 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (91*), Joe Root (21*)

Leeds Test live: Prasidh talks, Pope hits back

Prasidh here looks to go short and Pope plays a rather bizarre shot. Went down on his knees as he looked to play the uppercut. Ended up missing the ball altogether and Prasidh has a word with the batter.

Pope however, responds fiercely as he pulls one over the deep fine-leg region to get the boundary here.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (186/2 in 43 overs), trail by 285 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (90*), Joe Root (23*)

Jun 21, 2025 23:13 IST

ENG vs IND Live: Root goes after the lord

Thakur continues his spell, and he starts off with a few length deliveries. He goes up and appeals for a delivery that Root middle with the bat. A bizarre appeal indeed.

However, Root follows it up with the late cut to the third-slip region and gets the boundary. This also brings up the 50 partnership between these two as well.

Thakur oversteps the final delivery. Root guides the final ball for the single at the point region.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (181/2 in 42 overs), trail by 290 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (86*), Joe Root (22*)

Leeds Test live: Pope cuts it away

Pope continues marching into the 80s as he cuts the short delivery by Prasidh Krishna on the back foot to get the ball racing past the slip region for four runs

ENG vs IND Live: The Lord comes into the attack

Finally, after 39 overs, Shardul Thakur comes into the attack for the Indian team. He starts of with a few short of length deliveries just outside the off-stump line to warm up here. Seems to be slightly pushing his length fuller, though. Pope finishes the over off with a wonderful drive to the deep point region. Jadeja is there and interestingly does not put in the dive to stop the ball. Looks to use his foot to block the ball but ends up missing out altogether.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (165/2 in 40 overs), trail by 306 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (80*), Joe Root (16*)

Leeds Test live: Shastri on Bumrah's magic

The former India Head Coach, Ravi Shastri commented on how Bumrah weaves his magic with the ball. He talked about how Bumrah makes use of subtle variations in terms of his angles.

“When he is on a roll, I love the way Bumrah sets up a batter - the use of the crease, the angles he creates," Shastri commented on Sky Sports.

“You can just see from his body language that he is enjoying this spell and there is a chance of an opportunity being created," he added.

However, he remains wary of how much Bumrah can be used due to his injury concerns.

"When he is up against a top-class batter like Root, there is a spring in his step. But India will have to use him in short bursts."

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (152/2 in 39 overs), trail by 319 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (70*), Joe Root (13*)

ENG vs IND Live: England keep marching on

Brief delay here in the second delivery as Siraj messes up his run-up. Goes back and starts over again. But not much luck here. Swing seems to have died down for the moment. India will be hoping for the conditions to be overcast again.

Meanwhile, Root does not seem to be bothered by the full deliveries that are coming at him. Continues to push it down to the mid-wicket region here.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (152/2 in 38 overs), trail by 319 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (70*), Joe Root (13*)

Leeds Test live: India need better efforts from the fielders

A lot of missed opportunities for the visitors and Shubman Gill's message should be to ensure that this does not happen going into the final stretch of the day's play. Had they taken those chances they would have made their lives so much easier. Looks like Siraj will continue with his spell.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (147/2 in 37 overs), trail by 324 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (68*), Joe Root (10*)

ENG vs IND Live: Drinks Break

Prasidh Krishna continues his spell. Root drives one to the on-side and gets three runs here. Bumrah put in a decent effort but might not be pushing himself hard on the field. Gill comes in and makes the save in the end. The England batters play out the over and the umpire has called for the drinks break.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (147/2 in 37 overs), trail by 324 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (68*), Joe Root (10*)

Leeds Test live: Another stroke of luck for England

Pope just tapped the final delivery to the covers and pushed for the quick single. Sai Sudharsan looked to make something of nothing there and threw it to the striker's end. Ends up missing the wicket and goes on as the batters sneak in one more run. The fielding today by the Indian team leaves a lot to be desired. It could be costly in the long run for the visitors.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (143/2 in 36 overs), trail by 328 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (67*), Joe Root (7*)

ENG vs IND Live: Luck saves England again

Siraj thought he finally had his moment! Joe Root was given out LBW, and the celebrations began — India thought they were back in the game. But wait... the review flips the script.

Ball-tracking shows it’s missing the stumps, and Root survives! A massive let-off for England and a crushing moment for Siraj, who’s struggled to find his rhythm all innings.

That could’ve been a game-changing breakthrough — and getting Root early would’ve been the cherry on top. Instead, India are left wondering: what more can they do?

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (138/2 in 34 overs), trail by 333 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (62*), Joe Root (7*)

Bumrah to the rescue... AGAIN!

How many times has this man bailed India out? Jasprit Bumrah proves once more why he’s the best in the business right now! Just as Duckett and Pope were tightening the screws, Boom Boom does what Boom Boom does best — breaks the stand!

Here's a look at that beauty that sent the well-set Ben Duckett packing. Pure class. Pure Bumrah.

Leeds Test live: BUMRAH GETS RID OF DUCKETT

Just when India needed it most, Jasprit Bumrah delivers yet again!

The relentless pacer breaks the growing partnership by dismissing the in-form Ben Duckett, who was looking well set after a fine fifty.

This wicket comes as a huge relief for India, who were starting to feel the pressure from the Duckett-Pope stand.

But the job is far from done — Ollie Pope is still at the crease, and now Joe Root, England’s batting pillar, walks in at No. 4. A crucial phase of the match awaits!

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (126/1 in 28 overs), trail by 345 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (53*), Joe Root (0*)

ENG vs IND Live: India facing the pressure

The pressure is rising on the India bowlers big time now.

Both Duckett and Pope are playing both pace and spin quite easily now - and that has not been the best of sigts for new India captain Shubman Gill.

India need a breakthrough.

Leeds Test live: Ollie Pope complete fifty after Tea

After Ben Duckett's solid half-century, it's now Ollie Pope’s turn to raise the bat! He brings up his fifty in just 64 balls—another sharp, composed effort under pressure.

Fittingly, it comes off a thick edge off Bumrah that flies between the fielders and races to the boundary.

England continue to ride their luck—but they’re making it count. The partnership is growing, and India’s search for a breakthrough is getting increasingly urgent.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (111/1 in 24.1 overs), trail by 360 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (52*), Ben Duckett (53*).

ENG vs IND Live: We break for Tea

We head into the tea break with England in a strong position, thanks to a composed stand between Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope. After Jasprit Bumrah’s early strike removed Zak Crawley, the English pair has kept the innings on track with calm, confident batting.

Duckett, in particular, has stood tall—his well-earned half-century giving the hosts some much-needed stability and belief.

On the other side, the Indian camp will have a lot to reflect on. The bowlers haven’t quite hit their mark, and the fielders have been patchy. If India want to wrest control back, they’ll need something special in the final session.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (107/1 in 24 overs), trail by 364 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (48*), Ben Duckett (53*).

Leeds Test live: Ben Duckett completes steady fifty

Ben Duckett raises his bat for a solid fifty—his 68-ball half-century is a mix of grit, smart shot selection, and calculated aggression. Ever since Zak Crawley fell early, Duckett has stood firm, absorbing pressure and even taking on Jasprit Bumrah when needed.

It’s a composed knock that’s anchoring England’s innings and keeping India at bay. With Duckett looking settled, the visitors need something special to break this stand.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: England (105/1 in 22 overs), trail by 366 runs to India (471) in Leeds. Ollie Pope (47*), Ben Duckett (52*).

ENG vs IND Live: 100 up for England

England have found a steady path to the 100-run mark, with Ben Duckett leading the way and inching closer to a well-crafted century. Alongside Ollie Pope, the duo is steadily building a partnership that’s starting to frustrate India.

With both batters looking increasingly settled, this stand could spell real trouble for Shubman Gill’s side if they continue to extend their stay at the crease. India need a breakthrough—and fast.

Jun 21, 2025 21:09 IST

Fans growing impatient with India pacers

Apart from Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery breakthrough in the very first over—removing Zak Crawley—there hasn’t been much to cheer about for India with the ball. As the England pair of Pope and Duckett dig in, frustration is starting to build.

Some fans have begun voicing their concerns online, particularly questioning Prasidh Krishna’s impact. Despite earning his Test spot after an impressive IPL season, he’s yet to make a mark in this match.

India will need something special—and fast—to swing the momentum back.

ENG vs IND Live: Duckett handling Bumrah well

Leeds Test Live: Jadeja brings spin into the attack

Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack as India turn to spin for the first time in this innings. Captain Shubman Gill has sensed that Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett are starting to look far too comfortable at the crease — and that's not good news for India.

A change in pace, angle, and maybe some bounce... let’s see if Jadeja can break this brewing partnership!

ENG vs IND Live: Nasser Hussain's warning for Gill

Former England captain Nasser Hussain tells Sky Sports that Shubman Gill faces a tough risk-reward challenge as captain at Headingley, where keeping catchers in often comes at the cost of leaking boundaries.

"That is the challenge for Shubman Gil, especially here at Headingley. It is risk-reward.

"You have to keep your catchers in but you realise you are going to go for boundaries. It is such a hard place to captain for that reason."

IND vs ENG Live: England's luck stays strong

Another slice of luck for England!

Siraj gets one to jag back in and convinces Shubman Gill to go upstairs for the LBW against Ollie Pope. Looks close... but it’s Umpire’s Call on the stumps!

The ball was just kissing the bails — millimetres away from a breakthrough. Siraj can’t hide his disappointment. That was oh-so-close!

Leeds Test: Formal drinks break

The players head off for a formal drinks break at Headingley.

India got off to a dream start with Jasprit Bumrah removing Zak Crawley in the very first over, but since then, a string of fielding errors has let the pressure slip. Missed chances have allowed England to breathe a little easier.

Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, though living dangerously at times, have begun to find their rhythm and are now settling in nicely at the crease.

IND vs ENG: How will Gill handle Bumrah?

Jasprit Bumrah has bowled five overs on the trot in his first spell and has scalped one wicket, giving away 21 runs. It will be interesting to see how Shubman Gill handles him. Headingley Test: England avoid a blunder of a run-out

Chaos in the middle!

A length ball angling fropm Siraj into the pads clips Pope and rolls to Pant’s left. Duckett was already halfway down the pitch looking for a single, but Pope sent him back just in time. Pant fired a return throw at the striker’s end, forcing Pope to dive back into his crease.

England have been very lucky early into this innings, and that is despite the wicket of Zak Crawley.

ENG vs IND Live: Fans scared of a draw

India’s top order dazzled, taking the score to 430/3 and setting up hopes of a huge total. But a dramatic collapse followed, with the last seven wickets falling for just 41 runs—ending the innings at 471.

It’s now the highest score a team has had at 3 down before being bowled out without reaching 500. The last time something similar happened? England in the 1948 Ashes at Headingley, going from 426/3 to 496 all out.

With rain getting heavier, fans now fear the collapse could prove costly in a match that’s starting to look headed for a draw.

Headingley Test: Pitch cover comes on

This is not good news from Headingley!!

The pitch cover has come on and the Headingley pitch is now being covered, but so far it just looks like a precautionary measure from the ground staff during this lunch break.

No rain at the moment, but better safe than sorry.

Ravi Shastri speaks on Rishabh Pant

"What do you say about Pant?!

"I used the word outrageous yesterday and nothing has changed.

"He plays the numbers game beautifully and plays the way he wants.

"He will block for a bit and then decides he has to go after the bowler and shift gears. He has his own computer and only he knows how it works.

"That's his USP. That's what puts bowlers under pressure and makes him box office, a real entertainer and a match winner."

Jun 21, 2025 17:43 IST

Lunch summary!

It has been a superb game of cricket so far. The morning session of Day 2 started with some incredible fireworks with the bat from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.

Pant reached his hundred with a six off Shoaib Bashir, but right after that the spinner managed to trap Shubman Gill at deep square leg.

This is when the game changed for England. They saw an inroad and became sharper. Ollie Pope picked up an incredible catch at cover and then two more wickets fell in the Pant and Shardul.

Ben Stokes has been the hero of England here, with 4 wickets to his name already.

The overhead conditions have changed and the clouds are making their effects felt.

India have 450+ runs on the bank, a figure that the coach and captain will be very happy about.

India might look to declare after one more wicket to make best use of the conditions in Leeds.

ENG vs IND: Day 2 Lunch

England have clawed back in the game!

Ben Stokes picks up his fourth wicket as England dismiss Shardul Thakur at the stroke of lunch.

108.4: Ben Stokes to Shardul Thakur, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Ben Stokes with a wicket right on the stroke of Lunch once again and India are going down in a hurry. Just full of a length from Stokes, wide outside off. Shardul Thakur again just extends his arms in hopes of a cover drive without moving his feet and ends up getting a thick outside edge through to the keeper. Jamie Smith gobbles it up to his left and Thakur walks back for 1 (8) as India are 454/7 at LUNCH ON DAY 2!

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (454/7 in 108 overs). Ravindra Jadeja (2*), Shardul Thakur (1).

IND vs ENG Live Score: Rishabh Pant departs

Wickets are tumbling now.

Rishabh Pant gets pinned in front of the stumps by Joshua Tongue in the 108th over of the match.

The overcast conditions are really having their effect here. The ball is seaming around, and that means the bowlers are gaining their confidence back in this pitch.

107.2: Josh Tongue to Rishabh Pant, OUT! LBW! Tongue stays around the wicket and hones in on that good length again, but this time, he bowls it outside off and gets the ball to jag back in sharply. Pant hops across and tries to leave but the ball pings him on the pads. There is a  huge appeal, and given! A big miscalculation from Rishabh Pant and that could be catastrophic. Pant has a long chat with Ravindra Jadeja and does review it, he simply has to review it. The third umpire is called in and with no shot offered, it's straight to Ball Tracking, which comes up with three reds and Josh Tongue has turned a rather stagnant outing into something fruitful. End of a stellar knock of 137 from Pant, but with the overhead conditions changing, so are England's fortunes.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (454/5 in 108 overs). Ravindra Jadeja (2*), Shardul Thakur (1*).

IND vs ENG: Ravindra Jadeja walks in

India have gone past 450 runs. Ravindra Jadeja has walked into bat after Karun Nair's dismissal.

Ben Stokes is bowling very well right now, as he has done for the most part of this innings.

India have some batting left in them, Shardul Thakur is yet to come out. One good partnership and India will be hopeful of going past 600 runs.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (453/5 in 107 overs). Ravindra Jadeja (2*), Rishabh Pant (130*).

The catch that ruined Karun Nair's comebacl

You can watch this on repeat. I repeat, you can watch this on repeat!

Till they strike it down obviously.

Jun 21, 2025 17:11 IST

Karun Nair falls for a duck!

It took 8 years for Karun Nair to make his return to the Test team, but he fails to register a single run in his first innings.

It is a very unfortunate dismissal, as Ollie Pope has caught a ripper at cover.

104.6: Ben Stokes to Karun Nair, OUT! CAUGHT! That is a spectacular catch and it is a heartbreak for Nair on comeback. For the second time in two days, a new batter comes with a few minutes to the break and loses his wicket. But while this is Stokes' third wicket, the credit has to go to the fielder, Ollie Pope. Full and wide outside off, there to be driven.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (447/5 in 105 overs). Karun Nair (0), Rishabh Pant (130*).

Rishabh Pant survives

Whenever Rishabh Pant bats, the heart always pounds hard. It does it matter if it is the home team or the opposition, you are bound to be scared, bound to be entertained.

Superb, superb, superb says Sunil Gavaskar. Pant has managed to change his views from Australia. Incredible!!

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (442/4 in 104 overs). Karun Nair (0*), Rishabh Pant (125*).

WICKET!! Shubman departs just short of 150

India captain Shubman Gill holes out deep square leg. He falls just short of 150 runs!

101.5: Shoaib Bashir to Shubman Gill, OUT! CAUGHT! A wicket out of nowhere and Gill will have to wait for his maiden Test 150. Finally something to smile for the home side. Nothing special about the delivery. Flighted, landing nearly halfway down the pitch, outside off. Shubman Gill dances down the track, aiming to go big on the leg side. But he is not to the pitch of the ball and ends up swinging early. There is only one man on the leg side, at deep square leg and Gill is targetting deep mid-wicket but because he is not to the pitch of the ball, he ends up hitting it a lot squarer and finds Josh Tongue at perfection near the square leg ropes. He did not have to move an inch.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (430/4 in 102 overs). Shubman Gill (147), Rishabh Pant (113*).

IND vs ENG 1st Test Day 2: Special century from Pant

There is a certain joy in watching Rishabh Pant enjoy his cricket. That innocent smile, those eyes that have seen pain, that speaks a lot.

This is also only the fourth time that three Indian batters have scored hundred in a single innings outside Asia.

Hundred for Rishabh Pant!

Hundred for Rishabh Pant. And he brings that in style!

Comes down the track and hits Shoaib Bashir hard for a six! And he celebrates the century with a flip, just like his did it in the Indian Premier League.

99.1: Shoaib Bashir to Rishabh Pant, SIX! Rishabh Pant brings up his HUNDRED in the most Pant style possible and he even does a cartwheel to celebrate it. This is tossed up on the stumps, Pant skips down the pitch and heaves across the line, one hand comes off the handle but the ball sails over the fence in front of deep mid-wicket and that is a sensational century. His 7th in Test matches, 4th one against England. Will he now let loose completely?

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (426/3 in 100 overs). Shubman Gill (144*), Rishabh Pant (112*).

ENG vs IND Live: Drinks Break

Some nervy moments just before drinks. Rishabh Pant at 97, outside edges Shoaib Bashir to short third man. Ben Duckett, who is hovering over that position, picks up the ball and throws it hard as India try to sneak in a single.

The ball hits Harry Brook, who is in between the throw and the wicket, on his rib cage. Meanwhile, Shubman scampers to the crease while Pant retains his strike.

He is batting on 98*.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (412/3 in 98 overs). Shubman Gill (144*), Rishabh Pant (98*).

Wake up! Pant is doing Pant things

Shoaib Bashir comes into bowl his first over of the day and gets greeted with a special shot from Rishabh Pant.

What do you call that? A falling paddle says the commentator, as Rishabh shuffles and scoops the ball over the keeper's head, in the process falling over.

In the 5th ball of the over, Pant steps down against Bashir and hits him for a six through the leg side.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (404/3 in 96 overs). Shubman Gill (139*), Rishabh Pant (95*).

IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant is closing in on hundred

Rishabh Pant continues to punish Brydon Carse, who is simply not moving away from his short ball strategy to Pant.

It is simply odd to see that England have no fielder at the slips against the batters. The ball is new but that has not bothered India one bit yet.

93.1: Brydon Carse to Rishabh Pant, FOUR! VIOLENCE! A short ball, around middle, Rishabh Pant comes down the track and pulls it with aplomb through square leg. Deep backward square leg barely has some 10 paces to move his right but he cannot get there! The stand moves to 172.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (393/3 in 94 overs). Shubman Gill (139*), Rishabh Pant (84*).

India vs England 1st Test Day 2 Live: Gill looking solid

Shubman Gill's defence is watertight and he is bringing out his jabs on need-only basis.

England have fielded well, and have stopped a couple of very good shots from the batter.

The best thing perhaps from India's context is that how toothless England are actually looking right now.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (380/3 in 92 overs). Shubman Gill (135*), Rishabh Pant (77*).

India vs Engand Day 2 Live: Rishabh Pant is in the mood

After keeping quiet in the first over, Rishabh Pant is now in the mood.

He has charged down Brydon Carse a couple of times. He has pulled and late cut him for four and now is rotating the singles well.

Carse is slowly starting to fall in Pant's trap, as he bowls a short ball, that flies well over Pant's head and gets called a wide.

Also, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill have added 150 runs together in 223 balls.

Live Score, 1st Test, Day 2: India (374/3 in 90 overs). Shubman Gill (132*), Rishabh Pant (74*).

IND vs ENG 1st Test Day 2: Broad comments on toss decision

Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad is of the opinion that Ben Stokes made the right call at the toss.

He argues that it is the England seamers that messed up in the first session of Day 1.

"It wasn't as bad as that one [Nasser Hussain's decision to bowl at Brisbane in 2002]. I think it was the right decision.

"We know that this pitch gets better to bat on and it can all still change in the first hour today if England come out and get three wickets - the scoreboard would then look completely different.

"I think when the bowlers went full, they went a bit too full. England's bowlers didn't execute the plans but it doesn't mean they can't today."
