Nepal bowler Nandan Yadav was overwhelmed after South African legend Dale Steyn offered to coach Nepal. On Sunday, February 8, Steyn praised Nepal for their spirited performance in the T20 World Cup clash against England at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, a match full of twists and drama.

Chasing 185, Nepal fought until the very last ball, needing six runs, but England held their nerve to win by four runs. Impressed by Nepal’s fearless display against the 2022 champions, Steyn took to social media to offer his guidance and support to the emerging cricketing nation.

Steyn wrote, “Nepal, I offer my services to you if you ever need em! Up, up and UP!”

Nandan said it was a huge moment for Nepal cricket that a player of Steyn’s calibre offered to help. “So that’s a big thing for us. A legend who ruled cricket for 10 years is tweeting about us,” Yadav said in the post-match press conference.

Nandan, however, said it would be up to the team management to decide whether Steyn coaches Nepal in the future. “But it’s up to the management team, so we can’t approach him directly. Maybe we could, I’m not sure how to answer that one,” Yadav added.

HOW DID NANDAN, NEPAL PERFORM VS ENGLAND?

Nandan had an impressive day in the office after he finished with figures of 3-0-25-2. He first got the batter of Jos Buttler after which he dismissed Harry Brook. On the back of his spell, Nepal pulled England back and only let them score 184 for seven when the Brits were expected to score above 200.

Chasing 184, Nepal got a flying start through Kushal Bhurtel, and a resilient partnership between Rahul Paudel and Dipendra Singh Airee kept them in the hunt. Their bowlers, including Airee and Nandan Yadav, constantly threatened England with key wickets.

With 10 runs needed off the final over, Nepal dared to dream of a historic win, and the Wankhede Stadium roared with belief. But Sam Curran held his nerve, and England survived a thrilling contest, breaking Nepali hearts in a dramatic T20 World Cup clash.
