PM Modi highlights India's mission to become semiconductor powerhouse at Semicon

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th edition of Semicon India 2025, outlining India's mission to become a global semiconductor powerhouse. Citing the country's 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter, he detailed a rapid progression in the sector since the Semiconductor India program began in 2021. Modi stated that $18 billion is being invested across 10 semiconductor projects. He highlighted the vision for India to become a "full-stack semiconductor nation," moving beyond back-end operations. A key quote from his address was, "Oil was black gold, but chips are digital diamonds." The Prime Minister projected that India would hold a significant share of the future $1 trillion global semiconductor market and emphasized the goal of 'Design in India, Made in India' for the world.
