Eric Garcetti, former US Ambassador to India, spoke about growing cooperation between India and the United States in counterterrorism and trade. In an interview with India Today, he said law enforcement coordination had improved and that both countries were in regular contact over extradition requests, including that of David Coleman Headley, convicted in connection with the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Garcetti also addressed trade issues, noting tensions over tariffs and the need for a bilateral agreement. He said that the two countries must manage differences through direct talks. Garcetti pointed to the importance of shared interests in reducing dependence on China and called for steady engagement to strengthen the Indo-Pacific partnership.
