Nawazuddin Siddiqui alleges colour discrimination: Dark side of a racist Bollywood?

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has slammed the industry's obsession with white skin.

Nawazuddin took to Twitter to bring up these deep-rooted prejudice for fair skin in the film industry.

He tweeted, "Thank U 4 making me realise dat I cannot b paired along wid d fair and handsome bcz I m dark and not good looking, but I never focus on that."

Siddiqui said that someone from the industry made a remark such as that in response to which I had to tweet. "It's a fact that such ideas do exist."

Nawazuddin was hurt after Sanjay Chauhan, the casting director of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, refused to cast fair actors opposite brown complexioned actors such as him.

For a director to admit that casting a fair complexioned actor opposite Nawazuddin was unthinkable showed how deeply ingrained this bias is.  

Endorsements of fair creams by actors such as SRK have also drawn flak for the prejudice that they spread.
