Kasganj custodial death: Suicide or foul play?

Ahead of the upcoming UP assembly polls, a political war has erupted over the mysterious death of a youth in police custody in Kasganj. The police claimed that Altaf had strangulated himself using a string of his jacket’s hood in the washroom of a lock-up.

Five policemen have been suspended for negligence in the wake of the incident, they said.

Meanwhile, Congress and the Samajwadi Party have trained their guns on the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government.

Congress has slammed the UP govt over human rights in the state, while the Samajwadi Party has lashed out at the UP police, calling it a "thokko police".
